A working brewhouse with a bar around it.

From C. Schmidt and Son to Stanbridge Street.

Our family arrived in Philadelphia from Württemberg in 1851 and joined a Northern Liberties brewery that, by 1860, took the name C. Schmidt and Son. It became one of the city's anchor lager houses.
The family ran Schmidt's of Philadelphia for more than a century. In 2020, the descendants reopened the lager tradition in a Norristown warehouse. Same patience. The tanks are right there next to the bar.
In 2023, our O.G. Pils took Gold at the World Beer Cup®. The medal lives on the wall. The beer lives on the tap list.
Czech and German Lagers. Hop-Forward Ales. Dark Stouts.
Lagers anchor the list — pilsner, Helles, Vienna, Schwarzbier, Czech Tmavé. Hop-forward ales and an American stout fill the rest.

Walk-ins welcome. Dogs welcome. Bring your own food.
The taproom seats 80 indoors plus 60 in the beer garden. Rotating food trucks most weekends. Live music. Quiet weekday afternoons. Whatever weekend you're free, we're open.
Plan your visitA reclaimed warehouse, finished by hand.
We took an old industrial building and kept what was good — exposed roof trusses, brick that's seen a century, concrete worn smooth. Then we put the brewery in the middle of it.

What Visitors Are Saying
Plenty of taps, plus Galen's Glen wines. NFA Czech Pils — how about that mug. The family is descended from generations of Schmidt's brew masters; the last one advises on brewing at von C.
Lew BrysonLocal Guide · What's Brewing PA · GoogleCool space — huge, industrial, and pays homage to their lineage, Schmidt's. They have wine and cider, all from PA. Hubs had a flight, $16 for 6 and not a miss in the bunch. He then enjoyed two rounds of OG Pils — a throwback to Schmidt's which uses the original yeast.
Kristin N.Plymouth Meeting, PA · YelpAn under-discovered gem. A dozen-plus carefully crafted delicious beers on tap, also featuring hard seltzer, local wines, and local packaged snackables. Regular events with live music, trivia, and food trucks — check the socials.
Iggy NelixLocal Guide · GoogleWhen we were chatting with locals at this brewery, they asked us how we found the place because apparently it's a locals favorite and they don't get many tourists. Beautiful modern tasting room, big outdoor beer garden that allows leashed dogs, over 15 beers on tap, and even an Uncle Jerry's wheat — a style hard to find with IPAs still dominating the market.
Mel M.Freehold, NJ · YelpExcellent brewery with family history dating back to the original Schmidt's beer of Philadelphia. The beer was great and the industrial space creates a great vibe to hang out with friends. I highly recommend this brewery.
John KatesLocal Guide · GoogleWe always have such a great time here with our pups. The owner is super friendly and always makes a point to come say hi, which we really appreciate. The beer and canned cocktails never disappoint, and they always have some of the best food trucks around.
Breanna GaffneyLocal Guide · GooglePlace was full, found 2 seats at bar. Great atmosphere. Casual, friendly crowd. Food truck tacos were amazing. Great beers — pils, lagers, dark lagers — along with the history of Schmidt's. Took some 4-packs to go. Will be back.
Richard HomaLocal Guide · GoogleOlder Philadelphians remember Schmidt's Beer as a classic brew that represented the city proudly for over a century. Well, that DNA is alive and well in the descendants of that family who have now brought us von C Brewing… This is what adaptive reuse is all about.
Gerald S.Newtown, PA · YelpI always love coming here. If it was closer to home I'd live here on weekends… The beer is exceptional, especially if you are more old school styles. Relaxing setting, dog and family friendly.
George T.Upper Chichester, PA · YelpBest beer and bartenders around. A brewery that does every style well. Good rotation of food trucks and very dog friendly. Great open outdoor space.
Erik J.King of Prussia, PA · YelpVon C was just what Norristown needed!! Great beers from a historic family with roots making some of the best beers in the Philadelphia area. They have done a great job at renovating the building across from the state hospital into a brewery that is both modern and classic.
Courtney A.Philadelphia, PA · YelpMy new favorite place I'll be a regular for sure. Several beers on tap — loved the Stony Creek. Super cool vibe in this place — industrial look and feel and concrete floors. Lots of bar seating indoors and a ton of room outside for seating, kids, dogs. Music outdoors. Cornhole available to play.
Marianne K.East Norriton, PA · YelpHad a nice afternoon here today! They have a good amount of beers they make in house, and options for wine and cocktails as well. The place is so nice on the inside and the staff were nice. We would definitely return!
Sarah S.North Wales, PA · Yelp Elite · YelpThey don't serve food but the food trucks always have amazing food. The service is very good. I love the look of the place. The stools are comfortable.
Harry B.King of Prussia, PA · Yelp Elite · YelpThe beer is good & they have a lot of varieties. The vibe is chill, indoors are great, very nice to sit outside when the weather is good. I like the variety of food trucks, and you can bring your own also. Kid & pet friendly!
Joan K. D.Norristown, PA · YelpGreat drinks and they had the best food truck with pizza and wings when we went… I'm not a beer drinker, so their cider was a great option. Very crisp and not too sweet. This is a great place for some casual drinks!
Kassidy P.Bridgeport, PA · YelpCool place with lots of character. Beer was good and staff was very friendly. Limited food choices like many breweries, but owner provided some takeout menus and we had food delivered. Great experience. Will definitely go back.
Joe P.PA · YelpCan honestly say Von C is a top notch brewery that won't disappoint your taste buds. Family friendly as well! We go often with family!
Ashley B.Philadelphia, PA · YelpGreat spot! Enjoyed sitting at the bar and talking to one of the owners — service was friendly. Great ambiance. They have food trucks on different days. Look forward to going back.
Eleanor O.Somerdale, NJ · YelpUnbelievably one of the nicest breweries I have been too. Awesome selection of beer. Great location. If in Norristown, pay a visit and support.
Chris H.Google · GoogleOne of the top lager houses in Philadelphia. Highly recommend.
Jameson OggGoogle · GoogleFirst time in but already knew we liked their beer. Sat at bar and I really appreciate that they don't serve people squeezing up between seats and make you go to a line. Space is huge, good atmosphere and of course beer is good.
Dee TeeGoogle · GoogleThe beer is top quality and they have a wide variety of styles. Great atmosphere friendly staff.
James TreeseGoogle · GoogleThis was the coolest place!!!! My dog loved it here!!! Very pet friendly and just a relaxed vibe.
Andrea McBrideGoogle · GoogleThis brewery allowed dogs inside and outside. Food trucks are available most days and the staff is super dog friendly. Great place to relax or watch a football game!
